Ideas On Paper Nottingham

“Read all about it!” Magazine fans in Nottingham need to know about Ideas on Paper, a store that opened just a few weeks ago in Cobden Chambers which specialises in selling independent magazines and beautiful stationary.

I went with a friend to see Alex Smith the very friendly owner who has fulfilled his ambition and retuned to Nottingham to open his own shop.

Upon arrival at Cobden Chambers, I was shocked at how I had managed to miss this beautiful street.  All of the buildings had been painted in pastels and the courtyard was decorated with a number of interesting art pieces.

We made our way up the stairs and found Alex sitting on one of the very cool custom-made stools chatting to a client. I was amazed at the wide range of publications on offer. There were titles I had heard of such as Dazed & Confused, Wonderland and AnOther Magazine, however the majority of the titles were new to me.

There were independent titles on a wide range of topics including fashion, art, culture, business and economics, food, wine, design and travel.

We were encouraged by Alex to flick through the titles prior to choosing one to take home (but there wasn’t any real pressure to do so).  Alex was incredibly helpful and friendly. He is a collector of magazines and even sells some of his personal copies in the store. I asked him about this and he said:
“I don’t find it hard selling my copies as I am here in the shop all day every day so I can look at them when I like!”

After deliberation, I bought a copy of Dansk Magazine (a fashion title) and was presented with a hand written receipt in addition to a postcard of my choice. It was really novel and a lovely touch that made the purchase more special.

I will make the effort to buy my magazines from Ideas On Paper. Not only does it support a local business, it allows me to access zines and magazines that are not available at WH Smiths or other magazine vendors in Nottingham.
